I. History of the Chaozhou Port
1.Chaozhou Urban District Port
In Feb. 1989, The Chaozhou Municipal Port
Office was founded.
In April 1989,Chaozhou Customs,Commodities
Inspection,Animal and Plant Quarantine organizations were founded£¬and
then put into operation in March 1991.
In March 1991, the Chaozhou Hongkong/Macau
Straight Freight Train Checking Scene was built and put into operation.
In Dec. 1994,Chaozhou Health Quarantine
Institution was founded in Oct. 1996.
In Nov. 1999,Chaozhou Inspection and Quarantine
Bureau was founded.
(Merged by Commodity Inspection,Animal and Plant Quarantine,Health
Quarantine Institution).
In Dec. 1999, the sub-council of Chaozhou Customs Smuggling Crimes
Inspection was founded.
In Sep. 2001£¬the municipal port office merged with the municipal
foreign trade and economy committee to set up the Foreign Trade
and Economic Cooperation Bureau.
2.Raoping County Port
In August 1989,Raoping Customs, Animal and Plant Quarantine,Frontier
Checkpoint,Maritime Affairs Inspection Office,Health Quarantine
Institution, Commodity Inspection were founded and put into operation
in Jan. 1993. In Oct.. 1995,Raoping Container Vehicles Inspection
site was built and put into operation.
In 1999, Raoping Inspection and Quarantine Bureau was founded.

II. Land-Carriage Port
1. Chaozhou Hongkong/Macau Container Vehicles
Checking Scene
Chaozhou Hongkong/Macau Container Vehicles Checking Scene is located
in the mid of Chaofeng Road in Chaozhou Downtown.It is built up
and put into operation in March 1991, which costs more than ten
million yuan.It takes up 5850 square metres, including a 845-square-metre
warehouse.
The Checking Scene, with 30 staff presently,
has 20 platforms for examining the container vehicles.Since its
operation, the number of daily vehicles in-and-out increases annually
through strengthening the management and perfect the managerial
system.In 2002, the number of container vehicles examined was over
one hundred daily, peaked at 200. The Chaozhou Hongkong/Macau Container
Vehicles Checking Scene has achieved very good social benefits and
economic benefits.
2.Raoping Container Vehicles Checking Scene
Raoping Container Vehicles Checking Scene was built up in Oct. 1995,
taking up 5010 square metres. The Checking Scene cost a total investment
of 4.5 million yuan. There are a vehicle checking scene of 3400
square metres,a warehouse of 1200 square metres and an office building
of 410 square metre¡£On Nov. 6th,1994, the inspection site was formally
put into operation with the approval of the Guangdong Province [1995]No.
91 document.Since its operation, the number of the container vehicles
examined daily gradually increases through strengthening the management
and improving the service capacity, which results in good social
benefits.
III.Water Carriage Port
The Chaozhou port is located in Zhenlin Bay of
Raoping, at the very east of Guangdong Province.The port is comprised
by a 143-square-kilometre interior basin and a (planned) area of
1367 square kilometres.The coastline of the Chaozhou port extend
to 165 kilometres as one of the best natural deep water ports in
the south China.
Chaozhou port is originally named Sanbaimen
Port as part of the Shantou Port appointed by the state's Ministry
of Transportation in 1986,which open to foreign ships.As in 1992£¬Chaozhou
was promoted to extend the area£¬the Sanbaimen Port was transferred
to the administration of the Chaozhao municipal govenment as its
only one seaport. On Nov. 28th 1994£¬Chaozhou Port is established
as an independent port opened to the outside in the State Council's
[1994]No.117 document Reply to the Opening of Chaozhou Port in Guangdong
Province.
Since its foundation in 1986,there are big
freighters from home and abroad, including over 20 countries and
regions like the United States, Britain, Russia, HongKong, Macau
etc., ship from the Chaozhou Port. The annual volume of freights
handled in this port hit 1.1million tons, with the imported freights
volumed four hundred thousand tons in 1996.
The Chaozhou Port is composed of the Sanbaimen
Loading and unloading Scene , the Zhelin Dispatch Scene and two
anchorage grounds.There are six docks with one under construction
in the the Sanbaimen Loading and unloading Scene. That is a 50000-ton-level
dock special for gas,a 5000-ton level container dock,a 5000-ton
level dock special for gas, a 3000-ton level dock special for grain,a
1000-ton container dock, a 5000-ton multi-functional freight dock
and a 5000-ton level dock special for coal under construction. There
are a 500-ton dock for seafood, two sixteen-thousand-ton anchorage
grounds and a 50000-ton level dock special for gas in the Zhelin
Dispatch Site.According to the over-all plan of the port construction
project,it will newly build five docks above ten-thousand-ton level,
a one-thousand-ton level dock and a passenger dock from 2001 to
2010.It is predicted that by 2010, the take-in-and-sent-out capacity
of the port can reach eighteen million seven hundred and fifty thousand
tons.According to the state's [1989]No.17 document£¬Chaozhou Port
has set up some checking units like the Customs, the Frontier Checkpoint,the
Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and the Maritime Affairs Office.
The infrastructure and necessary examining facilities of Chaozhou
Port are all ready.
